Syllabus
Bible 7
2008-2009
Miss Lindley
Quite simply, my goal for this class is to help your child develop a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. First and foremost, that means salvation for those who’ve not yet made that choice; beyond that, I pray that through this class they will learn more about Jesus, develop discipline in their time spent with Him, and make wise choices that reflect their growing spiritual maturity. Music, projects, mentoring, and other methods will be utilized during this class to help make Christ real to your child. If there’s anything at all that you feel I can do to help facilitate your child’s spiritual growth, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Text:
The God-Man Christ in the Gospels by Cherie Noel; Positive Action for Christ; Whitakers, North Carolina; 1993.
The Holy Bible: You may use whichever version you prefer; most students use the NIV
Memory Verses:
Students will be given a verse on Mondays which they are to have memorized by the following Friday; evaluation methods will vary. When giving the verses to the students, I will use the NIV; if you would prefer that your child memorize another version that is fine – they’ll just need to indicate which version they’ve memorized.
Quizzes:
We will work through a lesson each week, beginning on Mondays and having a quiz over the lesson on the following Fridays.
Essays, other assignments, and tests:
Periodically essays and other assignments will be given; tests containing material from the weekly quizzes may also be given on a more infrequent basis.
Grading:
Grades will be a combination of memory verse tests and weekly quizzes, which are generally given on Fridays, in combination with any other assignments and/or tests given. If a student is absent on a Fri, he/she should be prepared to take the quiz the first day back to school.
Late Work:
Assignments are expected to be completed and turned in on time. If a student has not finished his/her assignment when due, he/she is to report to my classroom after school that day to finish the work. Assignments may be turned in up to one day late; 15% will be taken off the earned grade. A student will receive a zero on any work not turned in by the next day.
Semester Project:
Each student will complete a Biblical history research project, presented at Middle School Project Night in late November. The student will choose an aspect of life in first century A.D. such as music, dance, money, merchants, schooling, clothing, games, etc. Research and writing will be done through the student’s geography and English classes, and a presentation will be done through the student’s Bible class. More details will follow.
Tardies:
Per the school handbook, students may be late to class one time per quarter without consequence; after that, a DR will be issued for being tardy.
Behavior:
Students are expected to behave in a way that does not disrupt learning in the classroom. If a student violates that expectation, the matter will be discussed privately with the student. If there is no improvement, a phone call will be made home to parents. If there is still no improvement, detention will be assigned. Students are to serve detentions the day after they receive them.
General Reminders:
Students are to have their hair above their eyebrows and (boys) no longer than their collars. Polo and oxford shirts are to remain tucked at all times.
